So Whisper has been lame for roughly two weeks. We gave a course of bute and it didn't help. Riding didn't make it worse or better and neither did leaving him off work. So we were confused. So I asked my farrier to check him out as he knows this horse well and his race track history. He came and checked him. It wasn't his joints or hooves but his muscles that were sore. So naturally the next step was to call in an equine physiotherapist. There are two on the island that I really love and appreciate. One is Anna, you can find her on Instagram @physio_vet and Athina @athina_vet_physio. Both are brilliant at what they do.

When I first heard about equine physiotherapy I didn't think much of it, but then I began researching and decided to try it out on the boys. Whisper was already used to having physiotherapy from him race track days so it wasn't anything new to him and he enjoys it. Ermis on the other hand was very distrusting. He tried to kick and bite the physiotherapist but once she worked her magic on him that was it. Now he stands with his lip dangling down waiting for his session.

Athina came and worked on Whisper. She discovered that he has a very tight shoulder so that could be the cause of the lameness. Whatever it is, it doesn't appear to be serious. So we will give it some time. Unfortunately this means we have an energetic Whisper to handle. So far he's behaving. We did have once incident when he got excited stuck his tail up and had a nice little run round the farm. Took four of us to catch him. Was fun. No harm done luckily.

I recommend giving it a try as both Anna and Athina can help spot problems, release tension, give you tips, teach you stretches and be a voice for your horse.
