Horse week

So last week we invited kids from our riding school to spend the mornings with us so we could show them the other side of horses. Let me tell you it was exhausting. These kids are used to a fast paced world and don't have a large attention span or patience. I think this is mostly due to technology. If you think about it, tik toks, reels, etc are fast paced and this is what they are exposed to on a daily basis. So it was full of: what's next, is that it? What should we do now? ARGH. It took a lot of patience for us to handle this.

The aim of our horse week was not to ride but instead to expose them to what it means to care for a horse and that it's not just about riding. It's about patience and care. We showed them the before and after care of riding. How to lunge, tack up, untack and clean tack. We even showed them how to care for sick a horse as we had a horse with a slight fever so I showed them how to take a horse's a temperature and how we administer medication with the directions of a vet. I even had them watch my horses' teeth being floated. We also did some bareback, hacks, jockey stirrups, and did a mini jumping demonstration for them.
All I can say is we survived and hopefully this young generation learnt a thing or two about horse care.
